How much?
Selling your services at a loss is very easy, selling at a profit is much more difficult. When you are setting up in business or reviewing your charging or fee structure, don’t be tempted to sell ‘at any price’. Make sure that you set the ‘right price’ from the start. The ‘right price’ is one that clients will find attractive and that makes you a profit. Once you’ve set a price it is extremely difficult to increase it and keep your clients – reducing the price is much easier.
Make your marketing budget work hard
If you’re working to a tight budget make sure that you make the most of it. For example, if you write a press release for the local paper, make sure you send it to other local magazines and papers as well. Also, put a copy on your website and – if appropriate – send a copy to relevant clients or potential clients.
